-Science Department Lead Teacher - High School (Immediate Hire)Classification -Exempt, 12-Month Employee -Reports to -High School Assistant Principal and Head of School - -Primary FunctionThe Department Lead Teacher advocates for the needs of the teachers to the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT), and ensures that the teachers meet the mandates of the Leadership Team. The Department Lead Teacher works in their own classrooms while also coaching and supporting other teachers within their area of content-expertise. - -Desired Qualifications

Master's Degree preferred -NYS certification in related content area required3-5 years of teaching experience and highly effective ratings in all past evaluationsDemonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school settingsExcellent oral and written communication skillsExperience with educational technology (SMART Board, student laptops, etc.)Willingness to learn and grow professionally -Responsibilities1. - Content Knowledge and Planning

Conducting weekly meetings (with whole department or with individual team-members)
Providing guidance with curriculum development, unit and lesson planningProviding coaching in student-centered, discovery-based learning pedagogyFacilitating problem-solving conversations and encouraging teamwork between co-teachersAssisting with lesson plan reviews as requested by ILT
Assist in the coordination and growth of the school's assessment program by:
Coordinating data collection for the departmentAnalyzing department-level data from NYS Exams/Regents ExamsDeveloping data-driven solutions to increase student performance, particularly on standardized exams
Provide organizational leadership and support to the content-area team by:
Assisting with the planning and administration of After School Intervention/Saturday Academy as applicableAssisting the LT in creating professional development plan by identifying PD needsAssisting the Director of Operations in keeping a current inventory of textbooksCommunicating regularly with LT members to address concerns, needs, suggestions and feedback and writing a weekly report summarizing accomplishments, concerns, and announcements from the departmentParticipates in or conducts teacher evaluations and monitors teachers performancePerforming additional duties as may be assigned -Skills and Abilities

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing.
