Special Education Living Environment Teacher (Immediate Hire)
-Classification -Full-time Exempt -Reports to -High School
Assistant Principal -Primary FunctionDr. Richard Izquierdo Health &
Science Charter School is seeking experienced High School teachers
to provide in-person instruction to our high school students. Under
the general supervision of the Assistant Principals, teachers work
collaboratively with other teachers within their department and
across other content areas. - -Desired Qualifications
NYS certification required -Degree in
Science and/or Special Ed requiredAt least 2 years prior teaching
experience in high school preferredDemonstrated success working in
a school settingsExcellent oral and written communication
skillsExperience with educational technology (SMART Board, student
laptops, etc.)Willingness to learn and grow professionallyBilingual
Extension (Spanish, French, Urdu, Arabic) preferred
-Responsibilities
Prepare and implement appropriate
lesson plans and meet objectives.Welcome potential new students and
engage them as they complete trial daysCollaborate with Admissions
Department with new onboarding studentsWrite weekly progress
reports on each studentResponsible for classroom management
oversightFrequently consult with clinicians about student's
therapeutic needsReview student's neuropsychological report, LSP
and SAP (I.e., CIA profile) to utilize the data to inform student
instructionAttend IEP meetings and submit supporting documentation
as neededRequired to attend all student and staff meetingsRequired
to attend all Professional Development DaysAssess student progress
as requested by Academic DeanComplete---APC sheets---and mark
students after every period for the following: ---Manage Focus
Teacher/ Teaching Assistant to ensure they fulfill their daily
obligationsTaking attendance---(absent, present,
on-time)Marking---students for appropriate in-class behavior
(on-task, respectful, on-time).Completing the classroom cleaning
checklist.---Support with classroom management -Skills and
Abilities
Plan, organize, develop and conduct a
comprehensive teaching and instruction programEffectively assess
the instructional and educational needs of pupils, and design,
develop, and implement sound instructional and educational
programsProvide a motivating and stimulating learning
environmentWork effectively with staff, students, and publicRespond
appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting
Knowledge or ability to use SIS
(student information -systems) or online learning platforms
(Schoology, Google Classroom, PowerSchool, and Canvas) -Supervisory
ResponsibilityThis position has no supervisory responsibilities -
-Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to talk and -hear. This position is
very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling,
stooping, crouching, and climbing. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color
vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust
focus. Traveling long and short distances. -Position Type and
Expected Hours of Work -
This is a teaching position. -
-Monday-Friday 8am-4pm -Travel -Minimum to no travel required -
