With connections across more than 210 countries and territories, we are building a sustainable world that unlocks priceless possibilities for all.OVERVIEWThe Principal Engineer, Senior Vice President Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) at Mastercard will lead technology, engineering, and operations of multiple SME solutions. This leader will lead high-performing engineering teams to deliver and support omni-channel applications and services at speed and scale. This leader will also be a thought leader in continuing to make Mastercard a foundational differentiator for all our customers. RESPONSIBILITIES- Be a thought leader and help drive one or more initiatives strategically for the company (example through leadership of a special interest group, new tool development/process/recommendations, etc.)- Own and deliver all nonfunctional code (Testing framework, CI/CD pipelines, architecture fitness functions) for the Global Small Business program - Responsible for the analysis, design, development, and delivery of software solutions. - Hire and formally supervise/coach teams of engineers to build, enhance, and support multiple applications/services in the delivery of internal or market-facing products, platforms, or product bundles - Collaborate with business/product owners to develop and deliver on new services to introduce new products and bundles- Establish Small Business program objectives and development plans at the start of the year and reviewed continuously throughout the year - Manage and optimize budgets, forecasting, and cost allocation while delivering on business needs- Update Executive Leadership on status of high visibility initiativesEXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED- Strong engineering leader who leads by doing i.e. 30-60% of time reviewing/refactoring code and absorbing technical debt- Polyglot experience preferred but at least deep experience on Java, Spring, or .NET stack. - Highly proficient in API first, Cloud first and distributed architecture patterns. - Successful track record in managing medium-to-large scale development organization with demonstrated thought-leadership, cross-functional influence, and partnership- Has skills to develop and evangelize on reference architecture and run principles to help teams adopt Engineering Principles from the start (poison pill, active/active/active, auto-scaling, self-healing, others) - Experience in design and execution of automation across multiple business areas - Has an expert understanding of DevOps/DevSecOps best practices to guide developers and abstract application development from underlying hosting platforms and infrastructure- Performance engineering experience to ensure applications are built to scale, run, and perform for varying demands. - Has skills to evaluate practices, metrics, and roles to continually optimize SDLC methodologies and automate processes to improve lead time and quality- Experience in setting up test environments simulating production set ups, including high availability, and monitoring; leverage automation and ephemeral architecture for test environments to drive down run costs- Communicate, Collaborate, and Deliver:o Communicate design and decisions and influence technology and product direction of peers and executive leadershipo Make and meet commitments. Communicate change in plans whether they be design or timeline modifications honestly and transparentlyMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Mastery in multiple programming languages/technologies and strong familiarity with machine learning/AI methodologies- 12 years engineering leadership of public cloud scale distributed systems, platforms, and services- 10 years as a hands-on software development manager- Experience managing engineering organizations of 20 engineers- Strong orientation to user needs and experience, understanding of the Jobs to be done framework- Strong and broad working knowledge of the state of the art in cloud computing infrastructure including IaaS, PaaS, containers, analytics, data center deployments, and others- Demonstrated expertise at navigating complex organizational issues and driving results collaboratively and/or through directive management- Experience working in high growth companies and the ability to identify and build new capabilities as the scaling needs arise- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills of teams across multiple geo-locations- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written- Ability to work under tight deadlines while being flexible and responding to changing business and technical conditionsCOVID-19 Considerations We value the safety of each member of our community because we know we're all in this together.
