38,000 - 42,000Position Summary: Under the general supervision of
the Dental Program Managers and Health Center Managers, in the
Health and Wellness Division, and in accordance with established
policies and procedures, the Dental Assistant is responsible for
assisting practitioners in rendering patient care during clinic
visits by performing routine technical and clerical tasks. This
includes: providing chairside assistance, charting, operatory
maintenance and inventory control. This is a full-time
administrative position with no supervisory responsibilities at
multiple Children's Aid location. The hours are Monday through
Friday, 8 hours a day, including a one-hour lunch. During times of
need, the role may work evenings and weekends. The role will
occasionally travel via public transportation to other Children's
Aid locations within the 5 boroughs during work hours.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures that all patients, visitors, guests, and co-workers
receive personalized prompt attention and are treated with dignity
and respect, and that their right to confidentiality is
honored.
- Greets patients, observes their condition, and routes them to
the provider, bringing acutely ill patients to the clinician's
attention immediately.
- Monitoring the patient-flow system, ensuring that all patients
(walk-in patients and those with appointments) are processed in a
timely manner; informs the Dentist, Health Center Manager, or
designee of any systems breakdowns.
- Provides chair-side assistance to the clinician. This will
include charting, suctioning, passing and receiving instruments,
mixing of materials, developing and mounting radiographs, etc.
- Maintains the dental operatory, equipment, and instruments
according to mandated infection-control and sterilization protocols
(such as, setting up and breaking down the dental chair, use of the
sterilizer, and setting up trays).
- Schedules and confirms patient appointments. Maintains
preventive recall system and no-show follow-up.
- Works cooperatively with other program staff to facilitate
access and treatment of Agency on-site children such as Foster
Care, Head Start, After School, Camp, etc.
- Completes all appropriate sections of the patient data forms
and daily statistical sheets. Responsible for mailing these
documents weekly to the Dental Program Manager.
- Maintains an inventory of dental supplies and submits
procurement requests in accordance to established ordering
procedures.
- Provides coverage at the Community Health Centers or School
Based Health Centers as directed.
- Accepts delivery of supplies, unpacks, sorts, stores and
electronically closes out the delivery in the procurement
system.
- Escorts patients to operatory and throughout clinic as
needed.
- Prepares home-care packets and instructive paperwork for
distribution to patients Other tasks:
- Acts as a patient advocate.
- Reviews and responds to communications (for instance, emails
and Telephone Encounters) on a daily basis, and in a timely
manner.
- Keeps the Dentist, Health Center Manager or designee updated on
current issues and/or problems related to the role's job
responsibilities or the Center's environment.
- Assists with the clinic's other clerical duties as assigned by
Health Center Manager or designee, which can include assisting with
the registration check-in/check-out process.
- Participates in meetings, trainings, events, quality
improvement, and other initiatives.
- Complies with all privacy laws including HIPAA and other
regulatory laws, rules, and guidance.
- Performs other duties, as required or assigned. SKILLS AND
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate is
required.
- Must be either a graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant
Program or have at minimum one year of experience as a dental
assistant.
- Knowledge of Scan-X dental x-ray software, and processing, or
similar software preferred
- Must have knowledge of electronic medical records, preferably
eClinicalWorks.
- Works effectively and enthusiastically with children,
adolescents, families and persons from a wide range of cultural,
social, and economic backgrounds.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Requirements:
