Job Description:
Minimum Qualifications: Current license and registration to
practice medicine in New York State and board eligible or board
certified in a relevant medical specialty AND either a Masters
degree in public health or one year of experience in a public
health program.Up to 10% of the time, the incumbent in this
position may be required to perform patient histories,
examinations, and other clinical and epidemiologic care as needed
as part of public health activities.The incumbent in this position
will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet
access.Preferred Qualifications:At least three years of work
experience in public health or preventive medicine within a health
department, academic, or clinical setting. At least three years of
work experience in healthcare epidemiology. Education or other
substantial training in healthcare epidemiology or infection
control. Familiarity with communicable diseases and
healthcare-associated infection surveillance and outbreak response
activities.Responsibilities:The Public Health Physician II will
oversee the coordination of responses to infectious disease
outbreaks, public health threats, and emergencies in the region. In
addition, the incumbent will regularly collaborate with the New
York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene on cross-cutting
issues. The incumbent will be responsible for providing
epidemiologic and medical expertise and oversight to hospitals and
nursing homes in NYC and the surrounding boroughs and other
healthcare settings for the prevention and control of
healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and outbreaks, including
multidrug-resistant organisms, Candida auris, COVID-19, and other
emerging threats such as Ebola. The incumbent will provide
telephone, electronic, and on-site medical expertise and guidance
to a broad range of health care professionals and healthcare
settings; oversee surveillance and reporting of outbreaks in
healthcare facilities; oversee the design and implementation of
prevention projects designed to reduce or eliminate HAIs; assess
the effectiveness of surveillance, investigative and intervention
methods used during outbreaks; develop guidance documents on new
and emerging pathogens for use by NYSDOH staff, local health
departments and health care providers; perform patient histories,
examinations, and other clinical and epidemiologic care as needed
as part of public health activities; and other appropriate related
duties.Conditions of EmploymentGrant funded position. Compliance
with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant
deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.Valid and
unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa
