Position DescriptionJob TitleR&D AssociateDepartmentResearch and DevelopmentBasic Purpose:The R&D Associate provides lab-based support in the creation of new and renovated products. The incumbent works within the Food Business Unit product categories as needed to assist with diversifying and improving the Company's product offering and facilitating growth into new and existing markets.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:% Of RoleBackupPerforms appropriate bench work to produce prototype samples of new products. Coordinates shelf life studies, performs product testing, and facilitates product sensory assessments.45R&D ManagerCollaborates with Quality Assurance to ensure food safety, SQF and HACCP programs requirements are met and to provide product specifications and other related information to populate the Technical database.10R&D ManagerGathers and reviews all appropriate documentation for certifying body approval (organic, kosher), NLEA and other regulatory requirements, and internal specification development within the Technical database.10R&D ManagerPartners with Manufacturing, Operations and vendors to support plant trial production processes and inclusive of scheduling and material (ingredients, packaging etc.) delivery logistics.10R&D ManagerLearn the various manufacturing equipment capabilities associated with the processes for which products may be developed.5R&D ManagerAttends weekly cross functional team meetings with R&D, Marketing personnel and others to discuss projects and associated timelines, goals and objectives5R&D ManagerAttends plant trials, as requested.5R&D ManagerMaintains ongoing research and knowledge of technical service developments inclusive of potential opportunities or products and current developments.5R&D ManagerAssists with projects supporting the Snacks or Tea Business Units5R&D ManagerSkills/Knowledge/Abilities:* Bachelor's Degree or higher in food sciences, food process engineering or appropriate biological sciences* Knowledge of organic regulations or natural foods a plus* Ability to convert formulas to experimental prototypes and accurately document work in lab notebook* Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple priorities and strong attention to detail.* Computer skills including MS Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel PowerPoint.* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate (verbal/writing) effectively.* Self-motivated and strong analytical / problem solving skills.* Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and across other functional areas.* Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality* Preferred knowledge of the Consumer Product Goods Industry.Physical DemandsWork EnvironmentSitting 20%Near acuity (clarity of vision at 20 inches or less)No extreme climate or climate variationWalking 15%Fingering-computer keyboardExposure to fluorescent lightsStanding 65%Speaking-ordinary speechHearing-ordinary conversationWhy Kelly--?Kelly Science & Clinical is your connection to premier scientific and clinical companies looking to hire talented people just like you.
