Job DescriptionThe Criminal Defense Practice of The Legal Aid
Society has an opening for a Support Staff in its Bronx County
office to provide client services.The Criminal Defense Practice is
the primary public defender in New York City, providing holistic,
client-centered representation to over 200,000 people facing
misdemeanor, felony, and homicide charges.ESSENTIAL
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Messenger assignments Receptionist work:
answering phones, delivering messages, and routing calls to legal
staff Perform all word processing as needed Copy, fax, scan,
collate, and batch documents Distribute various documents Enter and
search for data on various databases Generate daily, weekly, and
monthly reports from various databases Update court calendars Send
and retrieve files from archives Catalogue and update library
materials Office filing Create and maintain case files Sort and
deliver mail (may involve going to post office), including
UPS/FEDEX, Airborne, etc. Prepare and deliver court filingsProvide
general information to clients, clients' families, vendors, and
staffOther duties as assigned.RequirementsHigh school diploma, GED,
or equivalent work experienceHigh proficiency in word processing
and computer skills, especially Microsoft OfficeStrong
interpersonal, communications, and organizational skillsAbility to
work independently and in a team settingAbility to problem-solve
and multi-taskPosition may require work in an office, courtroom,
and other field settingsKnowledge of NYC public
