Internship CoordinatorAbout SUNY Maritime College: SUNY Maritime College located on a 55-acre scenic waterfront property on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. SUNY Maritime offers an array of employment opportunities stemming from entry level to professional positions which encourage growth and development among its employees.Job Description: Under the general supervision of the Director of Career Services, the Internship Coordinator will be responsible for the development, coordination and supervision of all activities related to the successful implementation of internships. The position includes two distinct areas of responsibility: Internship development and coordination; employer relations and student/academic department relations.The mission of the Career Development Office at SUNY Maritime is to facilitate career exploration and preparation for our diverse students and alumni through academic, career, and personal development. The successful candidate will: Identify and recruit employer partners that will provide internship opportunities, secure affiliation agreements with employer partners, assists in the preparation of internship schedules, monitor and track student progress while on internships including holding weekly seminars and making site visits, design workshop sessions to prepare students for internship experience, evaluate employer and student internship experiences to ensure that internship experiences are beneficial to both parties, develop marketing and informational material to recruit employers. The candidate will be the main contact for students and employer intern supervisors.Develop the process for student placement including student interviews, develop internship placement packets for students, ensure that students have orientation, completed contact/info forms, resume, medical forms, interviews, background checks and drug screens.Generate and submit required reports, keep detailed records, evaluate student performance associated with internships and related assignments. Collaborates with Career Services staff regarding placement opportunities for students. Collaborates with program chairs and instructors in preparation for internship placement.Duties Providing leadership in the development and implementation of a viable internship programFacilitating student learning by assisting students to secure appropriate internships to enhance overall academic experience and learn skills essential to conduct a successful job searchMeeting individually with students to support their interest in identifying and applying to internships for credit or not for creditCollaborating with faculty internship coordinators in the College's academic departmentsInteracting with employers who have internship opportunitiesOffering presentations regarding the CDC and academic department resources to support the internship searchMaintaining a database of internship opportunitiesManaging scholarship and fellowship offerings for students completing internshipsWorking with College alumni to facilitate their access to internsContinuing to build international internship opportunitiesProviding optimal marketing strategies to connect students to experiential endeavors and jobs; Conducting site visits to evaluate appropriateness and relevance of internships for studentsDeveloping and revising internship policies and proceduresCoordinating and assisting other career staff with various events and activities throughout year (employer exploration days, career fairs, etc.)Assisting in marketing the services and programs through developing appropriate materials as well as advertising special eventsAssisting with the production of program material and informational publicationsAssist and/or develop social media context for the department Some evenings and weekends will be assignedRequirements: Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree1 - 2 years of experience in the field of higher education - internship relatedStrong attention to detailsDemonstrated written communication skillsAbility to present information/workshop to large groups in person and virtuallyPreferred Qualifications Master's degree in higher education, school counseling, human resources or a related field1 - 2 years experience in higher education - counseling related is a plusExperience with employer outreachKnowledge of career development theory and practiceExperience working with college students and employers from a wide range of majors and career fieldsExperience working with engineering and business majors is a plusExperience in planning events and resume reviews is a plusEvidence of success working both independently and as part of a teamProven time management and organizational skillsExperience working with and serving diverse populations Additional Information: Classification/Salary Range: The Internship Coordinator is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $48,000 - $55,000 annually, with an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see The UUP Benefits Summary ). Salary will commensurate with experience and qualifications.
