Job Description:
The Maritime College, State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Coordinator for Ship Training and Licensing (Engine) within the School of Engineering.
The Coordinator for Ship Training and Licensing (Engine) will report directly to the Dean for the School of Engineering.
Duties of the position will include:

  • Administration of the USCG-approved engineering training program, planning training activities aboard the College's training ship during the annual Summer Sea Term (SST)
  • Directing engineering training during SST underway
  • Teaching appropriate courses during the academic year ashore
  • Assisting the Dean of Engineering as needed
  • Work with the Dean for the School of Engineering, the Dean for the School of Maritime Education, and Training, and the Coordinator for Ship Training and Licensing (Deck) on all matters involving licensure, including Summer Sea Term and Cadet Shipping

    This position will be administrative, renewable with a 10-month academic year obligation, including academic duties at the Senior Lecturer or other appropriate rank. For those candidates with suitable qualifications and experience, a tenure/tenure track academic appointment at the appropriate rank may also be considered. Participation in summer sea term (SST) is expected, and will be compensated separately. Requirements:
    The successful candidate will:

    • Strong commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and enabling students across racial, ethnic, identity, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential
    • Advanced degree in an engineering discipline appropriate to the College's engineering programs, registration as a professional engineer, or otherwise be qualified by virtue of extraordinary experience for appointment to Senior Lecturer or other appropriate rank
    • Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in budget control, personnel management, and training development
    • Possess or be eligible to obtain a valid unlimited, management-level USCG engineering license with a current STCW certificate

      Further, exceptional candidates, would also:

      • Previous experience administering USCG and STCW requirements and procedures for licensure of marine engineering officers
      • Industrial experience, especially in the marine industry
      • Graduate Degree in Engineering

        Additional Information:
        Classification/Salary Range: Lecturer 10 Month is a non-tenure-track position. The anticipated salary range is $75,000 to $95,000 annually and includes an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see the ).         Special Notes: This is a 10-Month academic year appointment UUP position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
